Anna Gasteiger was a German artist working in the early 20th century, best known for her still-life paintings of flowers rendered with distinctive, lively brushstrokes, and a bright palette. Gasteigers choice of subject matter derived from her early fascination with the works of Dutch masters of the 17th century, and paintings such as Floral Still Life with Larkspur in a Vase Arranged on a Table and Autumn By a Lakeside exemplify her expressive aesthetic. She was born on February 26, 1877 in Lubeck, Germany and showed an early talent for painting. After studying at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Munich, she began exhibiting regularly in Munich and Dresden. In 1902, she and her husband, the sculptor Mathias Gasteiger, built a house in the Bavarian district of Holzhausen am Ammersee. This home soon became an artists colony of sorts, as the couple hosted numerous festivals and exhibitions. Today, the house and its Art Nouveau furniture remains largely unchanged, serving as a museum of both her paintings and his sculptures. Gasteiger died on December 16, 1954 in Munich, Germany
